We are now able to remove surface imperfections and dramatically reduce lines and wrinkles with a new procedure called laser skin resurfacing. We can now also gently remove sun-damaged, aging skin, layer-by-layer using a technology known as UltraPulse 5000C.
The UltraPulse laser uses a very high energy beam of light to vaporize scars, lines, wrinkles, and other skin defects. Laser light penetrates to a very precise, controlled depth, making the procedure safe and predictable, and reducing the risk of scarring or pigmentation problems. Laser skin resurfacing is nearly bloodless, and is performed right here in our office, without the costs and risks of hospitalization or anesthesia.
Because the laser is gentle, comfort both during and after the procedure is improved, and helps with a more rapid return to your normal routine.
This NEW LASER RESURFACING TECHNIQUE, helps clear acne scarring, pigmentation, wrinkles and sun damaged skin. It is a controlled removal of the old outer skin, unlike the chemical peel, where there is no control of the depth of the peel.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Laser is used?
The most up to date, safe coherent laser, with computer controlled level resurfacing.
How long will I have to take off from work?
Generally it requires 2 weeks off work.
Will I need more than one treatment?
Although a noticeable improvement will show after the first treatment, sometimes a second treatment maybe needed to touch up the deep wrinkles, specially around the lips.
How effective is the treatment?
The treatment is very effective. It is more effective than deep peeling or dermabrasion. Both these later methods of resurfacing are uncontrolled in regards to the depth of resurfacing which is of most concern.
Are the results of the treatment permanent?
Nothing is permanent in life. Provided you continue to take good care of your skin, reduce your exposure to damaging sunlight which does most of the damage, results can be gratifying for a very long period of time.
Can you explain how it works?
The carbon dioxide laser removes the upper layers of the skin, together with the scar, wrinkles and the sun damaged layers of skin, exposing a new healthy surface of the skin.
What will I look like when I go home after the procedure?
Because of the swelling that will last a few days, the face will look a little raw and a little moist.
Should I expect any complications?
Immediately after the resurfacing of the skin will appear a little pink for sometime; this will slowly subside. Some redness may appear in some areas and this will fade in several months and it usually goes away. In some areas pigmentation may also be visible, but this, will fade after a period of time. Following the procedure it is imperative that you keep the resurfaced area covered at all times while under the sun and wear corrective make-up for several weeks after the procedure. Scarring can occur but is not common.
Does this procedure hurt?
This procedure can be carried out under local anaesthesia or intravenous sedation or a combination of both or under general anaesthesia. In the post - operative phase the pain will be relieved by the appropriate medication. The procedure can also be done under general anaesthesia.
